I'm working hard on version 8. However, this is a major rewrite of the software. Experience tells me that I should not make any promises as for the release date.
As for obsolecence, I think it is common practice that upgrade terms for those who have purchased a new license within 6-9 months before the release of a new version will get the upgrade basically for free, although possibly a small handling fee will apply.
Version 7 is still the supported version and regular, minor updates to version 7 are included in the license.
