How to get a map file
Previous Topic  Next Topic

In order to show the map on-screen, you need the map in digital form as a map file.  Condes can use map files in OCAD format (.ocd), bitmap format (.bmp/.jpg/.png) or Windows MetaFile format (.wmf/.emf).

Condes supports OCAD files from OCAD version 6, 7, 8, and 9.  (There are a small number of "exotic" OCAD features that Condes does not yet support).

A bitmap file can be exported directly from OCAD or Adobe Illustrator, or scanned from a map using a scanner.

In terms of printout quality, an OCAD file will give you the best results.  A metafile will give you better display and print quality than a bitmap file.   Bitmap files give slightly lower printout and display quality, depending on the resolution.

OCAD files and metafiles usually are of reasonable size (usually approx. 1 MBytes).  Bitmap files can be very large, even when they are compressed.

How to link the map file to your event:

  1. When you have the digital map as a file, you should place the file on your hard disk.
  2. You can link the map file when you create your event in Condes, or you can use the Course Layout / Setup Map menu to link the map to the event file.
